The GOP argues that these developments present a "pattern of systemic vulnerabilities" that require immediate legislative oversight. However, Sen. Mark Montigny, the committee chair, has not committed to a hearing. The allegations come amid an ongoing dispute between Gov. Maura Healey and the Trump administration over turning over SNAP recipient data, which could be used for immigration enforcement. The Bureau of Special Investigations has reported $4.49 million in public benefit overpayments in the first half of fiscal year 2026.
