President Donald Trump has claimed that more Americans are working than at any time in the history of the United States. This claim was made during a speech at a Saudi investment conference. However, raw employment numbers are driven by overall population growth, so any president can claim an all-time high during their tenure. In February, 158.5 million Americans were working, slightly less than the 158.6 million people working, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The past year-plus has seen the weakest job creation record in 16 years. The White House supports these claims by pointing to the labor force participation rate for prime-age workers, people ages 25 to 54, as a direct test of Trump's claim. Other federal data indicates that monthly employment changes during Trump's second term have been more negative than those during other recent presidencies.
