St. Pete-Clearwater, Florida, is set to make history as a host port for The Ocean Race, one of the world's most prestigious offshore sailing competitions, in 2027. The first time in the race's 50+ year history, Florida's Gulf Coast will serve as the starting point for a transatlantic leg. The stopover will include a public race village at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. Volunteers are encouraged to recycle plastic Easter eggs for unique items like coasters, sunglasses, or "plastic poetry". Additionally, Keep Pinellas Beautiful is offering a full spring calendar of volunteer opportunities and educational programs.
