The $55.6 million budget for 2026 was introduced at the Council meeting, with an average home tax bill of $3,114 or $80 per year or $6.67 per month. The budget includes continued investment in the upgraded 911 system, competitive compensation for first responders, public safety technology, and road and pedestrian safety work. However, it also includes increased non-discretionary costs, including healthcare, utilities, pensions and sewer services. Nearly half of the budget is spent on public safety and public works, including police, fire, dispatch, crossing guards, roads, sewers, parks, downtown maintenance and forestry management. The council unanimously approved the initial budget on Monday.
