Solana's 'Alpenglow' upgrade, the network's largest proposed consensus overhaul to date, is live on a community test cluster in preparation for a potential mainnet rollout. The update is designed to move Solana from its current consensus system to a new architecture that aims to reduce finality times and improve network responsiveness. Currently, Solana relies on Proof-of-History, a cryptographic clock that timestamps transactions, and TowerBFT, a voting mechanism validators use to agree on the state of the blockchain. LayerZero has issued an apology for allowing its own verification infrastructure to secure high-value crypto assets in a vulnerable configuration, marking a significant shift from blaming Kelp DAO for a $292 million hack. The new security standard aims to prevent users from accidentally signing away their transactions, a problem that has fueled some of industry's biggest hacks and scams. The Ethereum Foundation and major crypto wallet developers are developing a "Clear Signing" initiative to replace walls of code users with simple, human explanations of what they're approving transactions.
