Proposed ‘CHATBOT Act’ aims to protect children from AI chatbots

A new bill, introduced in the Senate by Senator John Curtis (R-UT), aims to give parents more control over their children's use of artificial intelligence chatbots. The Children's Health, Advancement, Trust, and Oversight in Technology Act would require AI companies to create "family accounts" for parents to monitor and limit their children’s use of AI chatbots, while also allowing them to prohibit targeted advertising to children. The bill aims to address the potential harmful impact of these chatbots on children, particularly those of whom they could create. However, previous proposed AI safety regulations have faced significant opposition due to the growing popularity of AI technology.
