A New Mexico jury has found that social media giant Meta violated state law by knowingly putting children and teen users at risk. The verdict makes the tech giant liable for $375 million in damages to the State of New Mexico, significantly less than the original penalty of more than $2 billion. The jury found hundreds of thousands of instances of Meta engaging in unfair, deceptive, or unconscionable trade practices, violating state law. A Meta spokesperson responded by saying they will appeal the verdict and maintain their record of protecting teens online.
