The Illinois Senate has advanced bills requiring new insurance requirements for boaters and establishing local pension buyout programs. The Senate Transportation Committee voted 16-1 to advance a bill that would require more boat owners to have liability insurance for at least 50-horsepower engines or 21 feet long. The requirement would apply to boats with at least a 50 horsepower engine or 21-foot long. Other bills advancing include a bill requiring local governments to establish a version of the state’s pension buyingout program. The bill also updates state law to clarify language and requirements on mobile IDs to ensure clarity as more people use mobile IDs. The legislation aims to provide more transparency around the course workload for college faculty members.
