Pittsburgh students move to remote learning as NFL draft consumes the city

The NFL draft, set to take place in Pittsburgh this week, is expected to disrupt traffic, transportation, and security for three days. The main partners in the 2026 draft, including the NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers, the tourism agency Visit Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Public School District, and officials from city transportation and public safety, began meeting last summer to discuss the logistics and impact of the draft on the city. In February, Merecedes Williams, a public school official who attended the meetings, said the group began receiving high-level updates on road closures and the number of visitors expected. The decision to relocate students to remote learning was made in response to backlash and concerns about public transportation and safety. An NFL spokesman denied that the league played a role in the school's decision.
