Louisiana has postponed its congressional elections after the U.S. Supreme Court declared the current district map unconstitutional. While the House races are postponed, state plans to proceed with elections for the US Senate, constitutional amendments, and several local races. The court's decision limits a key provision of the Voting Rights Act and undermines protections for voters of color across the South. While Gov. Jeff Landry and Attorney General Liz Murrill welcomed the decision, civil rights leaders called it devastating for Black voters. The state's lawmakers are likely to redraw the map, potentially reducing the number of majority-Black districts.
