‘Don’t give up’ – Young hockey player survives cancer, is back on the ice

Cameron Ryder, a young hockey player from Vermont, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called mucoepidermoid carcinoma at 16-years-old. The Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute in Boston is using a different approach to treat these patients, focusing on understanding the unique physiology and tumor biology for these patients. Dr. Danielle Cameron from the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer program performed Ryder's surgery in tandem with a specialist who specializes in cancers associated with older patients. Today, Ryder is back playing for the Valley Jr. Warriors, a highly competitive league. He plans to return to hockey and become an oncology surgeon.
