Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has addressed employees about the layoffs at a company town hall on April 30, addressing them directly. This was the first time Zuckerberg had directly addressed staff about the cuts, but what he did not confirm was a significant increase in employee uncertainty. Zuckerberg also addressed a concern that AI tools are making human roles redundant, but declined to predict further cuts. The layoffs will impact teams across Reality Labs, the Facebook social division, recruiting, sales, and global operations. The company plans to cut approximately 8,000 employees, representing approximately 10% of its 78,865 global workforce, and eliminating roughly 6,000 open roles before they are ever filled. The restructuring will generate $125 billion in annual revenue and save $7 billion to $8 billion annually. However, this will be offset by restructuring costs tied to the cuts themselves.
