Canadian filmmakers Jack Weisman and Gabriela Osio Vanden have won the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize for U.S. documentary at their unconventional nature documentary, “Nuisance Bear” which focuses on the annual polar bear migration in Manitoba. The film was picked up by the New Yorker Studios after its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival and has been shortlisted for the Academy Awards. While the 14-minute short was conceived as a "proof of concept" for a feature-length documentary, A24's now-shuttered doc division came on board as producers and is currently seeking U.K. distribution. The international premiere of the film is at the Thessaloniki Intl. Documentary Festival.
