‘We’ve Been Told We’re Crazy’: Lawyers in Landmark Copyright Case Aren’t Backing Down

Tim Kappel and Loren Wells, founders of music industry law firm Wells Kappal, have won two major rulings in the landmark copyright case involving Cyril Vetter, aiming to regain control of the global rights to his 1963 rock classic "Double Shot (Of My Baby's Love). The rule they were invoking, which had historically only applied to U.S. rights, was a new rule that applies to overseas rights just the same as domestic rights. However, major music companies are now taking over the case with the intention of taking it to the US Supreme Court. Despite warnings that the case will cause chaos, the lawyers insist they are not deterred by its potential impact.
