The NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions has ordered Iowa football to vacate wins from the 2023 season due to recruiting tampering violations in the 2022 transfer portal. The committee found that Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz and assistant coach Jon Budmayr had inappropriate contacts with a student-athlete who had not yet entered the transfer portal in November 2022. The investigation was centered on the recruitment of Cade McNamara, who was recruited out of high school by BudMayr. The NCAA also imposed a one-year probation on the Hawkeyes and deemed this a Level II-Mitigated violation. While the suspensions were considered sufficient, the four wins the Hawkeye had with McNamara playing "ineligible" in 2023 still needed to be vacated.
