CNET has found that less than 40% of US adults are recycling their old tech, despite a survey asking 2,638 respondents about their typical plan. The survey also revealed that 22% throw away items and less than half (39%) recycle their devices. Tossing it may be illegal in your state and contributes to air and water pollution. Donating or recycling your electronic waste is the recommended route, with companies like Apple using recycled materials to build new products. However, selling, donating or recycling old tech is better than polluting the environment with toxins and chemicals found in smartphones and tablets. E-waste laws have been enacted in 25 states, with South Carolina requiring tech to be recycled.
