Hundreds of Amphi students start year at new campuses across the district

The first day of school for Amphitheater Public Schools in Tucson began on Wednesday, with hundreds of students relocated to new campuses across the district. The Amphi Governing Board previously voted to close four elementary schools, redirecting students to other campuses across district. At Painted Sky Elementary, students arriving from Copper Creek were greeted by familiar faces from their former teachers, classmates, and administrators. Stephanie Hillig, principal at PaintedSky Elementary, said the transition was more like a reunion as 35 percent of Copper Creek's student body is now enrolled at Paint Sky. The district's consolidation plan involves placing students from the four closed schools in different locations.
