US President Donald Trump is set to discuss the Strait of Hormuz with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, and may face a similar situation as South Korea and Japan face questions about their mutual defensive obligations as the US seeks support from its allies in the war on Iran. This comes after Trump initially urged the UK, China, France, Japan, and South Korea to send warships to the strait, which has remained de facto closed since the US launched its war with Israel on Tehran on March 28.
