The Blackstone Valley boys hockey team was honored at the Rhode Island State House for their achievements and contributions, not just on the ice but in life. The team had been through a difficult period, including a shooting that killed three members of their senior night team and injured two others. The coach, who led the team to win the Division 2 state championship a month later, acknowledged their commitment to each other and their resiliability, determination, and commitment to the team. Also honored were the good Samaritans who intervened during the shooting. The head coach was presented with recognition from Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee. While the hockey season is over, the coach said the team will always be family, regardless of where they go next.
