The Carlsbad 5000 race, known as "the world's fastest 5K," celebrates its 40th year. The race attracts top runners from around the world, with Meb Keflezighi, who won a silver medal in the 2004 Olympics and became the first American to win the Boston Marathon in 31 years. Kefezighi now helps put on the race and is at the finish line every year to give out medals and high fives. Past world records for the "road 5K" have also been set at Carlantic. The course will change slightly in 2024 to avoid crossing train tracks.
