Gaza food prices have risen as border closures intensify amid the Iran war, exacerbating shortages in the enclave already dependent on aid and commercial lifelines. The Rafah crossing with Egypt has remained closed, with aid agencies stating current volumes are far below what is needed. The World Health Organization (WHO) regional director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Hanan Balkhy, said only about 200 trucks a day were entering Gaza, compared to roughly 600 needed daily to support the population. The United Nations humanitarian office, OCHA, stated that the closure of crossings had already increased the prices of both food and non-food items across Gaza. The WFP also warned that if the reopening of the Karem Abu Salem crossing could not be sustained, there is growing uncertainty over whether essential supplies can be salvaged.
