Jeff Capel to return for Year 9 at Pitt: School would owe nearly $15 million buyout to fire him

Pittsburgh basketball coach, Jeff Capel, will continue his coaching career despite a disappointing season with a 13-20 record and one NCAA Tournament appearance in 2025. The decision to fire Capel would have cost the university nearly $15 million. Capel has a 127-127 record at the school and 288-232 overall. The school has been mired in mediocrity since Capel left for TCU a decade ago, making one NCAA tourney and averaging 15 wins per season.
