Nebraska is expected to experience near-record to record-breaking heat on Wednesday before a powerful cold front arrives Thursday, bringing strong winds and a sharp cooling trend across the state. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-80s to mid-90s across Nebraska, with many areas potentially exceeding Wednesday's record high temperatures. Fire danger is the primary concern for the state, with afternoon relative humidity values expected to plummet into the low 20s across the region. Despite this, Red Flag Warnings are in effect for western Nebraska from 11 a.m. Wednesday through 11 a.,m. Thursday for potential wildfire outbreaks. The cold front's arrival will determine when the temperature will peak, depending on where it arrives and when it is in the area. The weather will also shift sharply to the north and northwest, with gusts of 35 to 45 mph predicted. Temperations will return to normal for the weekend as a ridge of high pressure builds over the Rockies and shifts east.
