New restaurant Jean's By The Sea, run by local wine and hospitality veteran Kate Elia, opened last month in a former Wimpy's Grill location in the Old West Durham neighborhood. The main focus of Jean's is its Calabash-style baskets of seafood, which can be fried, blackened or grilled depending on the type of fish. The drink menu includes oysters on half-shells, shrimp rolls, fried fish sandwiches, chowder, and a michelada.
