Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) has announced it is eliminating administrator and staff positions in an effort to save tens of millions each year. The district also announced in December it is closing 29 schools, representing about a third of the district's current 88 elementary and secondary schools. The layoffs are expected to result in savings of about $50 million per year. District CEO Warren Morgan announced the cuts in a video and letter to the community. The number of positions being eliminated did not specify when the layoffs would begin. In February, the Columbus City School District announced it would eliminate 62 administrator jobs, which is expected to save at least $6.6 million a year. Public school enrollment in Ohio has declined from 1.74 million students in 2010 to 1.59 million in 2025.
