A Labubu movie is coming as Chinese firm expands viral toy franchise

Chinese toy manufacturer Pop Mart and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced plans to develop a feature film based on the popular character Labubu. This move is part of Pop Mart's expansion into other entertainment and cultural products. The film is being produced by Paul King, the BAFTA-nominated filmmaker behind "Paddington" and "Wonka," and co-written by Steven Levenson, the award-winning writer best known for "Dear Evan Hansen". The film, in early development, is planned as a live-action and CGI hybrid. Pop Mart is currently showcasing The Monsters as part of a global tour to mark the characters' 10th anniversary.
