China's government has increased its rhetoric towards the democratic island of Taiwan, which it claims as its own territory. The government's work report, presented by Premier Li Qiang, stated that it would "resolutely combat separatist forces" and oppose external interference. This change from the previous year's language of "anti-Taiwanism", which included threats to take the island by force if it made any formal moves towards independence.
