The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), a trade pact that binds North America, is under increasing strain due to a joint review of the agreement. The review, which requires the three countries to decide on extending the agreement for another 16 years, has taken an adversarial turn, revealing a deepening rift between Washington, D.C., and Ottawa. The dispute stems from Washington's desire to prevent China from using Mexico or Canada as a back door into the North American market. The USMCA has protected the US from tariff pain by exempting a significant portion of Mexican and Canadian goods from the Trump administration's high levies. However, foreign automakers have warned that they could pull their cheapest models from the U.K. market if USMca is not renewed.
