Captain Rachel Malcolm has criticised the treatment of her Scotland rugby team at the last year's Women's Rugby World Cup, stating that it was not good enough. The 34-year-old captain expressed her desire for the squad to be "happy and supported". In February, some players reported that Scottish Rugby's handling of player contracts left them with poor mental health. Their contracts had been due for renewal in June last year, two months before the World Cup. While some were offered 12-month deals, a quarter were told their contracts would end in October after the tournament. Players claimed they were not given the proper support by Scottish Rugby, which denied this. Malcolm now leads the squad at the 2026 Women's Six Nations under Australian head coach Sione Fukofuka.
