The Christian rock band the Newsboys and their co-founder, Wes Campbell, have filed a lawsuit against various defendants, including MercyMe, World Vision charity, top Christian Music Tour Promoters, and journalists who broke news about the scandal surrounding former singer Michael Tait. The lawsuit alleges defamation and antitrust violations, including a combination of defamation and libel. It does not cover the original story published in the Roys Report about Tait's alleged history of aggressive sexual behavior towards men, which was followed by a confession about drug use and touching men. The suit alleges that the rape allegation against Tait was fabricated in league with a competitor to destroy a $50 million deal and destroy a touring-related business headed by Campbell. It also criticizes a scheme to eliminate a competitor, Waterland, a Dutch venture capital hedge fund, and subsidiaries Transparent Productions, Premier Productions Holdings and Rush Concerts, alleging that the band sought to promote almost 80% of the Christian music concerts in America.
