The Mountain West (MW) basketball coaches and athletic directors are meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona, to discuss a new hoops tournament format. The current format is more top-heavy than the old one, which was played with six or seven teams. However, the new Mountain West isn't nearly as loaded with good teams, making the league a few notches lower. This could significantly impact the league's chances of making the NCAA Tournament. The league should shift from a traditional bracket format to a power-protected format for the conference tournament. This format would also allow the men’s and women’'s tournaments to be played simultaneously, avoiding the current format of women‘s tournaments.
