Hulu has cancelled a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale, with actress Sarah Michelle Gellar expressing her disappointment at the decision. The cancellation came as Gellar was about to promote her new movie, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, and as was Chloé Zhao's Oscar-winning director, Gellar accused an executive on the show of being not a fan of the original series and distancing himself from the show. The timing of the cancellation could not have been better than Gellar, who starred as Buffy Summers for seven seasons and was asked to return to the character two decades later. However, the cancellation may not be the final nail in the coffin for Buffy, with a Hulu source suggesting there is still a lot of love for the show still exists.
