Ethereum Name Service gateway, eth.limo, has revealed that a domain hijacking on Friday was caused by a social engineering attack directed against EasyDNS, its domain name service provider. The attacker impersonated one of the company's team members to initiate an account recovery process with Easy. However, this allowed them to access the service and alter domain settings. Both companies have acknowledged the incident, citing the Domain Name System Security Extension (DNSSEC) as a crucial tool to thwart further damage. The attack was described as "highly sophisticated" by easyDNS CEO Mark Jeftovic. The company has begun rolling out changes to prevent future incidents.
