Cambodian Beer Dreams, a new documentary from Laurits Nansen, is premiering at the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival CPH:DOX. The film explores the increasing increase in alcohol consumption in Cambodia, which has seen a fivefold increase over the past two decades. The country has no legal drinking age and few directives on alcohol, making it the Wild East for local and global brewers. Nansen follows Kim Eng, a lone activist challenging the beer industry and "neo-colonial alcohol capitalism" in his fight for a national alcohol law. The documentary explores the influence of aggressive marketing, young ‘beer girls’ and promises of cash prizes on the poor population.
