The Canadian military aims to demonstrate its ability to defend the Arctic without relying on external assistance. This comes after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to make Canada an American state, take control of Greenland, and withdraw from NATO. Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney has pledged to spend C$35 billion reinforcing its military in the far north, declaring that Canada will no longer depend on any one nation. Despite this, the deep ties between the Canadian and American militaries remain unchanged. Russia's foreign ministry has accused Russia of doing its best to maintain peace and stability in the region.
