A report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has revealed a 22% increase in cryptocurrency-related fraud losses in 2025, indicating the increasing sophistication of online scams. Total losses to cryptocurrency reached $11.36 billion, accounting for a significant portion of the total cybercrime losses of $20.87 billion. Investment-based fraud generated $8.6 billion in losses, the largest category by far. Cryptocurrency was mentioned in over 181,000 complaints in 2025.
