Miami University's Board of Trustees has approved a resolution to build a new multipurpose arena at the university's main athletic arena, replacing Millett Hall, which opened in 1968. The new arena is expected to cost about $242 million and be completed in time for the start of the athletic season in fall 2028. The project will be built on Cook Field, a lighted grass field used primarily for intramural sports. Donations and university bonds will pay for the arena, which will be funded by donations and university bond funds. The multipurposes arena is designed to address space limitations and ongoing systems, operations and maintenance issues at the current facility. It will also allow the university to host multiple events simultaneously, including commencements, concerts, creative arts performances, and career fairs. There is opposition to the project, with 3,600 students arguing that the school's financial priorities should focus on academics rather than athletics.
