Oakland County Officials Warn Of Dangerous Unregulated Stimulant Sold In Local Stores

Some energy drinks and gummies contain "synthetic kratom," a highly concentrated stimulant substance that can pose serious risks to children, according to Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. The warning comes after the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services posted a health bulletin on the issue. Kratom is often marketed as "natural" or "herbal", but these products are not regulated. If mixed with alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, sleep medications or other sedatives, they could pose a serious health risk.
