New Jersey plans to charge $150 for a train ticket from Penn Station to MetLife Stadium on World Cup match days, a move that Calvo argues will harm ordinary citizens and is urged to use the World Cup to enrich Americans, not inconvenience them. The state claims this price hike is necessary to keep residents from bearing the cost of the tournament. However, Calvo criticizes the decision to increase the cost and inconvenience commuters, including seniors, children, and people with disabilities, who normally qualify for discounted tickets. The Department of Transportation has allocated $100.3 million in federal transit support for World Cup host cities.
