Technology companies have laid off over 80,000 employees globally in the past four months, according to Trading Platforms. This comes as Tennessee continues to grow as a growing tech hub. Major companies including Oracle Corp. and Amazon laid off 25,000 engineers in March and 16,000 Amazon workers were laid off in early January. Experts attribute these layoffs to artificial intelligence, which could lead to lower pay. Goldman Sachs researchers predict that up to 7% of the workforce will be displaced over the next decade, resulting in a 0.6% increase in unemployment rate. In 2025, Tennessee layoffs will reach a five-year high with 8,856 employees impacted by mass employee reductions.
