Legislation to honor fallen Cleveland police officer clears Ohio Senate

The Ohio Senate has unanimously voted on legislation that would designate a portion of U.S. 322 in Cleveland as the "Cleveland Police Officer Jamieson Ritter Memorial Highway". The bill, sponsored by Strongsville Republican Sen. Thomas Patton, will now go to the House. Ritter was killed in 2024 while attempting to arrest De’Lawnte Hardy, who is awaiting trial for aggravated murder. The bill allows mental health professionals three years longer than one to restore the mental competency of murder defendants.
