The 33rd Team, the nickname given to North Carolina by Bill Belichick and general manager Michael Lombardi, failed to impress in the NFL Draft last week. This comes after North Carolina's roster was gutted and rebuilt for the 2025 season, with 257 players drafted, not one from the program currently led by Belichick. The team's high-paid staff, including Lombardi and defensive coordinator Stephen Belichick, was unable to acquire and develop one player deemed draft worthy. North Carolina won only four games in Belichick's first season as a college head coach, the lowest number of wins since Larry Fedora’s back-to-back 3- and 2-win seasons in 2017-2018. Despite this, North Carolina has found a new coach, Bobby Petrino, and is looking to build a better team.
