John F. Kennedy Jr. was flying his plane with his wife, Carolyn Bessette, and her sister Lauren Bessettes when it crashed into the Atlantic Ocean on July 16, 1999. The day leading up to the crash was more chaotic for JFK Jr. as he was meeting with media executives to help turn around his political lifestyle magazine, which he co-founded in 1995. The couple had planned to fly them to Martha's Vineyard, where they would drop Lauren off and then head to his cousin Rory Kennedy's wedding the next day. However, the three passengers never made it. The plane he was flying ultimately crashed about seven miles off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard. Despite his marital issues with Carolyn and his professional life being at a difficult time, JFK Jr.'s was also struggling financially and faced pressure to meet with advertisers.
