Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski has stated that the department is reviewing its investigative processes, particularly when AI is involved, following a wrongful-jail allegation involving a Tennessee grandmother, Angela Lipps, who was jailed for months on Fargo bank-fraud charges that were later dismissed. The case was not solely based on the AI-assisted lead, but was part of an investigation using other investigative steps. Ziboliski explained that the process began with detectives gathering evidence and sending the case to the Cass County State’s Attorney’’'s Office for review, followed by a judge's approval of nationwide extradition. He also stated that when someone is booked on a warrant, Fargo police may not automatically be notified.
