The Montana Heritage Commission and the state Department of Commerce have finalized contracts for concessionaires in Virginia City and Nevada City. The concessionaires, which include 10 from the 2025 season and five new ones, were affected by a dispute between some businesses and state officials following financial instability after money was stolen from the Heritage Commission. The state found some contracts that were not consistent with others and moved to redo them. Some businesses and politicians argued that the amount of rent the businesses paid was not fair. The dispute reached court, but a judge ruled it was not the correct venue for a contract dispute. Additionally, plans to award 99-year property leases were put on hold until further discussions.
