A Hays County jury has sentenced 73-year-old Rodger Wilder to 25 years in prison for aggravated assault against a family member in the 2024 shooting death of his wife. The attack occurred during an argument between Wilder and his wife, who he claimed had attempted suicide. The woman was hit in the hip and abdomen but survived after receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The couple's son was able to disarm Wilder, lock him outside the home and call 911. The trial also heard testimony that Wilder had been emotionally and physically abused his wife for years.
