Reid Wiseman, a 50-year-old native of Springdale and graduate of Dulaney High School, is set to command NASA's Artemis II mission, the first crewed flight around the moon in over 50 years. The four-person crew will reach several thousand miles beyond the far side of the moon before returning to a landing spot in the Pacific Ocean. Wiseman's background combines aviation, military service, and spaceflight experience. He was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2009 and previously spent nearly 13 hours performing spacewalks during a 2014 mission aboard the International Space Station. The mission will also test life support and communication systems aboard the Orion spacecraft.
