The Kansas Senate has successfully overruled Democratic Governor Laura Kelly's veto of Senate Bill 368, which would allow individuals to earn tax breaks through health insurance ministries. The bill, if passed, would provide a subtraction modification for qualified health care sharing expenses paid by a qualified person and certain qualified health health care shares received by another person. The House will need a two-thirds majority to override Kelly’s veto. If successful, SB 368 would enact the Health Care Sharing Ministries Tax Deduction Act. The modification would not exceed $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 in a married couple filing a joint return.
