The National Football League (NWSL) and the players association have officially joined Project ACL, a research initiative by global soccer players' union FIFPRO, to study ACL injuries in the women's game. The project will involve the NWSL and NWSLPA, as well as FIFPro, league sponsor Nike and the U.K.'s Leeds Beckett University, to collect physical performance metrics, workload and injuries in an effort to improve industry-wide understanding of these injuries. The study will also conduct player interviews to collect information on physical performance, workload, and injuries. Project ACL was initially launched in 2024 in conjunction with players in England's Women's Super League. The focus on the study is on factors such as travel, scheduling, international tournaments, rest periods, and player development.
