Riva native Luke Borchelt, a rising star from Maryland, is gaining popularity with country music with his distinctive Free State sound. He is part of a small but growing group of country artists from the DMV, including Shaboozey and Jackson Dean, who focus on Chesapeake life. Borchet is set to headline the Commanders' NFL draft party at Nortdhwest Stadium on Thursday. He credits Maryland's musical mix, including a love of DMV hip-hop, for giving his sound an edge. A new album, "Watertown," is set for release this summer and aims to further expand the genre's geography and storytelling.
